Restaurant Noah @ Hakone Machi, Japan

Browsing the photos in my camera, I came upon these from my trip to Japan last year. You shouldn’t miss a place you’ve only been to once, but I do :( Actually I think I miss the whole cold weather thing. I gotta remedy that!

Anyway, part of the whole package deal I took for Hakone included a free lunch at Restaurant Noah. If you take the sailing ship, or if you are in Hakone Machi and just want a place to eat, Restaurant Noah by Lake Ashi is about one of the only places you get. Its located upstairs from a souvenir shop and I was expecting food to be of small portions and highly priced. Arguably I need not have to worry about prices but I was worried about quality.

Still, it was “free” so off I went to eat there.

To my surprise, lunch sets ranged from JPY1280 to JPY1350. Naturally, since I was having a “free” lunch, I went for something more expensive from the menu because I’m Kiasu that way :P

The Teriyaki Steak Bowl Lunch was JPY1350 (RM50+) on the menu. What you get is a large bowl of hot white rice topped with a whole beef steak grilled with teriyaki sauce and sliced. It came with a large bowl of soba noodles in miso soup, pickles and salad. Goodness! That is a LOT of food!

The next one we chose was the Pork Loin Cutlet with Grated Radish topping. What you get is a huge slab of lean pork lightly fried and topped with LOADS of spring onion and grated radish and a hot sauce. I loved this! The contrast of the slightly spicy spring onions with the pork was delicious. There was a fried starter but I can’t for the life of me remember what it is now. It was served with hot white rice, pickles and a steaming bowl of miso soup. Cost JPY1350 (RM50+).

Honestly, if I was in Hakone again and even if I did not have a “free lunch” to redeem, I’d still eat here. The prices are reasonable, the portions are staggering and the food is pretty good.
