You’d think I’m mad to enjoy eating steamboat or hot pot in our hot tropical weather. And yes, maybe I am :P

More so when the place I go do is not air conditioned. Fortunately, they open only in the evening till about 9+pm so its always nice to go when the evenings are cool or if its been raining.

Restoran Tiang Seng Pulau Ketam Steamboat is a place I’ve been frequenting for years. They do a simple no frills steamboat meal. You can choose to order a set (min of 2) or you can pick out individual items which of course costs more.

I usually go for the set. With 2 sets, you can feed 3 persons quite comfortably. The portion is reasonable and unlike many other steamboat places I’ve been to, the portion of vegetables is reasonably large.

Since they call themselves Pulau Ketam Steamboat, the set focuses primarily on fish paste in various forms. Meat is lacking for those you prefer it, but you can order it separately. At time of writing, 1 portion of sliced pork is RM12.

I really like the chilli sauce they give – its delicious mixed in with the blanched noodles and fried shallots. Previously, they used to fry the shallots themselves and serve them with a bit of oil which added to flavour. These days they use the pre-fried ones which aren’t as tasty.

And that’s it! Toss all the raw food into the hot pot (only comes in 1 type of soup i.e. clear) and let it boil up and then enjoy! :D

Yummies! :D
