A friend told me to try this roast meat stall at Sky Restaurant (at the base of Sky Hotel) on the corner of Lebuh Chulia and Jalan Masjid. Its actually a coffee shop and the roast meats here is apparently its so good that customers start queuing to place orders the minute the stall opens at 11am.

We ordered a plate of Char Siew and Siew Yoke for 2 persons, a plate of blanched vegetables and 1 plate of rice. Soup is gratis (I think).
The char siew (barbequeued pork) isn’t bad but I found it too hard. It might be because its too lean. In fact it was even crunchy in parts. Quite weird.

I did like the siew yoke (roast meat). The meat was tasty and the skin crunchy as it should be. However, the meat was cut so thin that I found it hard to enjoy the meat. Roast meat needs a bit of bite and this didn’t have it.
With veges and 1 bowl of small rice it came up to RM12.50. Price wise its not too bad.
My main gripe is with the coffeeshop – Sky Restaurant. If you don’t order a drink they make you pay RM0.50 for the privilege of sitting down for lunch. I looked around the coffeeshop but there was no sign saying so. Is that why so many people opt to pack the rice? We ended up ordering a cup of coffee for RM1.10 – a watery lukewarm sweet brew. Yucks!
I will NOT return because I don’t support businesses that hold customers to ransom. This does not happen in KL only in Penang. Sorry roast meat stall – you’re pretty good but the coffee shop spoils the experience for me.
Not recommended due to coffeeshop forcing customers to order drinks. Otherwise, if you plan to takeaway, do so – foodwise, its pretty good.
