I sometimes get a craving for rice wine chicken mee suah but I have been too lazy to make it myself (recipe is here). Today, my colleague suggested we have lunch at Taste of Foochow, which sells red wine chicken mee suah. We’d eaten there way before they moved to their current location but due to the rise in prices and reduction in quantity, we gave up on the place.

Today was the first time I’d been back in about 1 year. I’m happy to note that things appear to have improved.

Red Wine Chicken Mee Suah RM6/bowl

The specialty is of course the Red Wine Chicken Mee Suah (RM6/bowl) The potion of mee sua is now quite large although you still only get 3 pieces of chicken. Meatier pieces if I don’t say so myself. Once I got 3 bits of bone. Made me mad it did!

The red wine is home made by the owners and you can buy it from them if you like. The soup was thick, well flavoured with a strong smell and taste of red wine. Yummy! RM6 is a hefty price to pay but I must say since portions are bigger now, I have less complaint.

The other house specialty is the Foochow fish balls.

Foochow Fishballs RM0.80/each

Foochow fishballs are special because concealed within is some minced pork. Its flavoursome and delicious – though a little expensive. Unless you specify how many fishballs you want, you are given the standard RM5/bowl – 6 fishballs and some slices of fish cake.

Foochow Fishballs - fishball outside, minced meat inside!

For 2, without any drinks the bill came up to RM17. Pricey but as I said, I only go once in a while so I guess its alright at the end of the day :)

Taste of Foochow is Non-Halal.

Have you eaten? The Pink Parisian has!

Seems they add more red wine if you ask but I’ve not tried before though!
