Here’s a bit of a hidden gem in Taman Desa Kuala Lumpur. Kajitsu Nihon Ryori Japanese Restaurant. I’d been passing by this restaurant for years but never stepped in. Some time last year (2009) they were running a 20% discount promotion off all ala carte dishes so it was a good time to try the food.

The interior is done up to look like a Japanese Ryokan or a traditional Japanese house. Its all kept very simple.
Kajitsu does sets (bento sets) as well as ala carte dishes, sushi and sashimi and I found them very affordably priced. We had a Karubi set (RM28) which was grilled beef with some sauce over it, served with a bowl of rice, miso soup, fresh fruits, pickles and a chawan mushi.

The portion size is very substantial especially for one person!
We also had a Niku Nabe (RM15) which is a hot pot with loads of vegetables and beef in it. A bit like a sukiyaki and again this was supposed to be a 1 person portion.

Next up was some yakitori (grilled chicken on skewers) RM6/2 sticks.

Generous chunks of chicken grilled and drizzled with sauce. Yums!
To round it off, we had the Kajitsu Special Maki (RM14) which was a sushi roll with salmon and tempura bits on it.

I liked this one. The sushi is made fresh as you order it and it is always well made and delicious.
Service can be a little slow I will admit. Sometimes, it feels like you’re eating a course dinner. However, portion sizes are large and generous at very reasonable prices so I’d say its always worth the wait for me.
I’ve since been back quite a few times now even without the promotion. Its a bit of a distance from where I live and work, but good affordable Japanese food is worth a short drive
