Day 1 in Tokyo and I was already hopelessly in love with its food. In the evening saw me pottering around Shibuya area wondering what I would have for dinner and I chanced upon a ramen shop that was full of people. Naturally, I had to investigate.

The shop is Kamakura Ramen (I believe) which sells ramen by way of a vending machine! Let me explain.

You choose your ramen from the outdoor menu and purchase a ticket via vending machine outside the shop. Once you’re done, you enter the shop and hand over your ticket and wait to be surprised (if you don’t speak or read Japanese like me!) I chose my order based on the pictures.

Your order is cooked in the middle and everyone sits around a counter waiting for food. You get complimentary water which is nice. I noticed the restaurant was very popular and the turnaround is quite quick.

Here’s my ramen! Ramen noodles in a delicious pork based soup with vegetables and slices of meat plus an egg. I’m so hungry just looking at it again! The egg is quite innocuous until you bite into it. Here’s what it looks like inside.

Hardboiled on the outside but soft and runny on the inside!! Absolutely delicious and portion size was HUGE too!

I believe Kamakura Ramen is a chain restaurant but if this is the quality you get in a chain restaurant, its way good enough for me! This bowl set me back 900 Yen (RM35). Yes food in Japan is pricey.

Non Halal.
