Having foodie friends are the best thing ever! Having foodie friends who are game to drive distances for food is even better!
One Sunday saw me and a bunch of foodie friends head up Genting Highlands to indulge in some theme park fun and… food of course!
We got there in time for lunch so we opted for Dim Sum at Genting Palace restaurant. This restaurant is in Genting Hotel – the highest hotel on the hill and serves Chinese food.
There were 6 of us so we doubled up most of the dim sum platters to be fair to everyone – after all being foodies and food bloggers (some of us) we just HAD to take photos of everything we ate! So this is going to be a picture heavy post!

The Century Egg & Chicken porridge is delicious! We had extra helpings of this one because everyone loved it so much. Ditto the Stirfried Carrot Cake or Loh Bak Ko. Extra helpings all round! Mm…

The Fried Shrimp Wonton got the thumbs up from everyone at the table too. There is a large crispy prawn inside and its quite large and came piping hot. Took a while to come though – don’t know if they were frying it or if they had forgotten our order.

Another order that we had to keep reminding the servers of was the Braised Chicken Feet. It was nice and I think the portion is bigger than what I’ve gotten elsewhere. But the sloooow service meant that the 2nd plate only came after dessert by which time we were so full!
I also thoroughly enjoyed the lor mai kai – glutinous rice with chicken and mushroom. The rice was well cooked all the way through and soft yet it was not too sweet or salty. I could eat one all by myself!
But that means I have less space for other food

The Fried Cheese and Prawn Spring Rolls was something quite different. The salty taste of the cheese went well with the sweet crunchy prawns. I’m not much of a fan of cheese but the taste was not too strong so it was alright.

And what is dim sum without egg tarts?! I did not have this, but the rest who did said it was absolutely delicious so I’d go with their verdict

We rounded off our lunch with a dessert each – Mango Pudding and Herbal Jelly (Gui ling Gao). I had the guilinggao which I felt was a little too sweet and not herbal enough. It will suit the palate of those who’d prefer it this way with the texture of cincau. I prefer mine thicker. The longans were a nice touch and added nice flavour.
Food was pretty good but the service was a little poor. Some of our food took ages to arrive and I’m sure some of the orders were forgotten because by the time they arrived, we were having dessert! But in the company of good friends its hard to feel bad about small things like that.
There were 6 of us at lunch and we had double helpings of most of the dishes featured with a couple more not featured. It came up to about RM30 each with tea (RM180). Not too bad!
