MIGF or the Malaysian International Gourmet Food festival comes around once a year and a couple of years ago, I had the MIGF set dinner at QBa Bar and Grill at Westin Hotel. I forgot about it last year and this year, but while I was at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur recently, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the MIGF Festival is on and hurrah! Iketeru was one of the participating restaurants!

Iketeru is Hilton Kuala Lumpur’s Japanese Restaurant and it was my first time there. This is only going to be a review of the Ikateru MIGF set dinner which goes for RM190++ without wine.
It is a 5 course Japanese set dinner that is truly for those who can eat a lot – else you’d be full up by the 3rd course.
You start with 5 sushi balls “Temari Sushi” – all raw seafood – salmon, tuna, yellowfin, scallop and prawn. The rice is terribly compact and has that lovely sweet taste of mirin I only find in sushi rice at good Japanese restaurants.
For salad you get fresh greens with crispy prawn chips, baby sardine and lotus root served with wasabi ponzu dressing. MMmmm… I love the dessing! Its tangy and spicy and delicious! The prawn chips too were delicious. I don’t remember the baby sardine though – maybe I ate it without noticing
For the steamed dish, it was Trilogy of Cod – Steamed cod with shirako and mentaiko sprinkled on top in cream sauce. I was a little wary of the cod but there was no smell, it was sweet and firm and it was delicious! It was also a very generous piece of cod so by now, I’d be totally full up!
You are then served a little helping of tomato sorbet to cleanse your palate before the main course. It was very refreshing with the tart sweet taste of momotaro tomato in cold sorbet.

The main dish is Kakuni style braised and seared wagyu short ribs, 4 mushrooms and sesame sauce. Mmm….!!! The ribs were so tender you hardly needed a knife to slice through them. It had a lovely seared taste yet was very flavoursome, without the gamey smell associated with wagyu. Awesomeness!

Dessert was Oolong tea cake with chestnut cream and some fresh fruits. Nothing super special about this one after the taste explosion of the first 4 dishes. However, it was just nice to clean the palate after a very heavy meal.
This promotional set dinner is priced at RM190++ per pax and is available until end October 2009 at Iketeru Hilton Kuala Lumpur. If you want wine with your meal, the whole meal paired with wines at every course is RM280++ Personally I don’t think its too much to pay for the experience – after all, its gourmet!
p/s Please excuse the quality of photographs. The interior is VERY dark and I had to do the best I could

The menu looks great. RM 190++ is a lot of money, but since they serve a generous portion of Wagyu and cod fish, I guess it’s worth it. Wish I am in KL right now !
