I was in Alor Star recently and when I’m in Alor Star, I always pop by this coffee shop in the middle of town to have the dry noodles or kolo mee. Its not super wonderful in taste but its tasty enough and above all, its cheap! Well, cheap for a city slicker anyway

The name of the shop is Kedai Kopi Jin Hoe and its located near a shopping complex beside the Holiday Villa Hotel.
The noodles I have is the dry kolo mee which is not like the Sarawak Kolo Mee. Its more of a dry wantan mee texture without the black sauce. A plate of kolo mee with slices of char siew and some blanched vegetables is RM2.00! When I first went there, it was RM1.80!
Tell me that’s not cheap! ![]()
The chicken rice and roast meats stall is quite popular too so I tried the siew yoke or roast meat.

This lot cost RM4 or RM5 which is pretty reasonable. The meat was a little salty but it was quite tasty.
I never know what or where else to eat in Alor Star and I’m only ever there for half a day, so this is a decent coffee shop to eat at if you want something quick, filling and cheap. There are other stalls too selling all sorts of noodles but the kolo wantan mee always fills me right up
Jin Hoe Coffee Shop is Non-halal.

I am drrrrrrrrooooooooooooooooooling!
I used to work in A.S. in days gone by and had many a pleasant meals at this kedai kopi. In those days the hottest item was the Lor Mee to be eaten with lots of chilli. I hear the standard is now below par as it is operated by a different person.
If you like duck meat, there is a very good Mee Sua with duck drumstick soup at a coffee shop behind the Police HQ building. It usually sells out by 9.00am. There should be some good prawn mee stalls in the Sg. Korok area and at the abandoned cinema called Tai Kuan. Happy hunting and hope you will blog on your new findings.
i eat before 3 years ago..not bad taste d
