I’ve been to Pantai Seafood a few times but recently I had something so scrumptious, I’ve decided to let it have its very own feature! The Alaska King Crab!

This baby won’t win any beauty contests for sure! But this is how the Alaska King Crab looks when fished out of the tank right before our very eyes. It weighed a hefty 2.2kg!

What is so special about the Alaksa King Crab are its legs. Just look at the length of those legs! And the size! Definitely good eating on this one!
Because it was such a big crab, we opted for it to be cooked in 2 ways – steamed and in a gravy, the latter of which was a specialty at Pantai Seafood.

I was a little wary of steaming the crab as I was afraid it might taste fishy. But my worries were unfounded. The crab was chopped up and steamed with some egg white on the base and with Chinese cooking wine. It was fragrant and absolutely delicious! The crab legs are huge and you are provided with a pair of scissors.
Yes, the shell of the Alaska King Crab is so soft you can cut it with scissors. Beats hammering away at it like that of a mud crab! The flesh in the legs were thick and sweet and to my surprise even the body was chockfull of thick sweet meat.

The second style was having the crab cooked in a gravy recommended by the waiter as a specialty. It was delicious too as the gravy was not overpowering and brought out the sweetness of the crab. Its especially delicious with hot rice!
When I was there on 09-09-09, Pantai Seafood was having a promotional offer of RM198 per kg for Alaska King Crab. Usually, it costs RM200+/kg. Definitely something I’d come back for if there’s another celebration
Update: The crab alone cost about RM435
I’ll feature some other foods I’d have at Pantai Seafood later.
Pantai Seafood is not halal and reservations are highly recommended.

alaskan king crab? o.O wahliao…hehe…I’ve eaten at Pantai Seafood quite a few times since it’s near my place and the food’s pretty good…haven’t gone as far as to whack the king crab yet, although I’ve had fresh lobster sashimi at a similar place in Kelana…hehe..
@Beetrice: I remember your post about the lobster!
I’m not much into lobster – too tough and tasteless for me. But these crabs were scrumptious!!!!
wah….so glam the crab! i have only eaten the legs once before, when some relatives gave us some of the legs so we brought it to restaurant for them to cook. but it sure tasted good!
So, how much was the damage for that meal of yummy Alaskan Crab?
@Michael : The crab alone was about RM435
