I’d noticed Nak Won when I used to pass by the Taman Danau Desa part of Old Klang Road before. However, I never had the urge to stop and try it mostly because I was so conditioned to think that Korean restaurants only abounded in Sri Hartamas or Ampang. Well, to dispel such stereotypes, I gave it a shot once.

Nak Won Appetizers

The ban chan (appetizers) are extensive which is fun. My favourite item is the steamed egg in hot pot that arrives a little later than the rest of the cold dishes. Its definitely something to savour especially if its been a cool rainy day.

I also usually have the Sam Gyub Sal (grilled belly pork). The 1 person portion is about RM23 and is enough to feed 2 or more!

I’ve compared it to other Korean restaurants and I find more value for money having Sam Gyub Sal here because portions are just larger. Once grilled, the thinly sliced meat is crispy in parts and juicy in others. Decadent!

Wrap a piece of meat in a salad leaf provided together with the cut green chilli, raw sliced garlic and dipped alternately into kochujang and the flavoured salt with sesame oil. Pop into your mouth and enjoy the burst of flavour!

Another dish we had was Sam Gye Tang (Boiled ginseng and chicken soup).

Sam Gye Tang

A whole spring chicken is stuffed with barley and rice and boiled with ginseng and some dates into a soup. Its delicious and filling but can be a little salty.

The whole meal cost us about RM50+ The unique thing about Nak Won is that when you call for the bill, they’ll present you with a printed bill and a figure written in pencil. If you pay in cash, they don’t charge the service tax – cool! :D

Before you leave, you are also given a bowl of cold sweet rice drink and a slice of watermelon. Its a nice way to cool down after a hot barbequeue dinner.

On an overall basis, I find that the quality of the food at Nak Won is average but its certainly value for money. If you’re familiar with the Taman Danau Desa area, Nak Won is located right above Sri Kota supermarket next to the Food Court and Shell Station.

Nak Won is NOT Halal.

I usually have my korean food at the other end of Nak Won, Seoul Korea, reason being there have more vege for me and I am totally in love with their appetisers (ok, not much choices for a vegetarian but the appetisers). The steamed egg you mentioned, it came with the appetisers?
