Pastamania @ Pavilion Kuala Lumpur

When Pavilion Kuala Lumpur was first opened, I saw Pastamania next to J. Co Donuts but I never tried it. It used to be quite popular as I recall from the seating capacity.

Recently, I had the opportunity to try it together with 2 other friends. We pored over the menu diligently and in the end, settled for the Family Set Meal. The set meal is meant for 3-4 persons but to be honest, it was just about right for us 3 ladies!

Pastamania garlic bread

For starters there was garlic bread. Crispy and buttery and garlicky. Nothing quite special but nothing bad either.

As part of the set, you can choose a 10″ pizza from a specific menu. We had the Four Seasons Pizza – chicken ham, olives, capsicum and mozzarella cheese.

The crust was thin even though we did not specify as such, and it tasted freshly oven baked – just how I like it. I rather enjoyed the pizza.

We could choose 2 pasta dishes and one of it was Linguine with Spicy Chicken sauce. You have a choice of pasta which I like as I always prefer the shorter pastas – penne and fussili but I’d take linguine over spagetti any day!

Linguine with spicy chicken sauce

The sauce was a little thin and spicy. I wasn’t fussed about the spiciness but I was about the lack of tomato. I like my tomato sauces thick and chunky. The sliced chicken in it was ok, Nothing special. Overall, it was just an ok dish.

The other pasta dish was a baked pasta.

Baked pasta

Fusilli baked with a cream cheese sauce with chicken ham slices. It wasn’t too bad although it could have been tastier.

On an overall basis, I’d say their pizzas are worth eating while the pasta is pretty much a miss. As part of the set, we had 4 cups of soft drinks. All for RM49.50 (nett). I thought it was pretty alright.

I must say though that service could be improved upon. The servers were very slow and did not pay attention to the customers. We called one over, who signaled us to wait. He then proceeded to serve other customers and forgot to come over to take our order! They were not local so perhaps I could forgive them not being able to understand what we wanted but still…

Once the order is taken, the food is served relatively quickly. I’d come back but only for the pizza because its not easy to find oven baked thin crust pizza in a commercial setting. That said, ala carte prices of pizza are a little on the high side. I could get a larger pizza with more topping at Prego @ The Westin Hotel for about the same price as Pastamania or just a little more. Tells you something eh?

Pastamania is at the Lower Ground Floor of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur next to J. Co Donuts.

This is one of the place I like to go for lunch. Love their garlic bread the most and of course the dory fish baked rice.

Don’t order their meatball pasta though.

@hcfoo: Thanks for the warning and I might try the baked rice if I go back
