I’d heard a lot about Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa at Kampung Baru. Its apparently a very famous nasi lemak stall but for the life of me, I had no idea how to get to Kampung Baru! So the next best thing – visit the outlet! Hehe…
I actually chanced upon the outlet at Bangsar recently and decided to try it to see what all the hype was about.
Of course I had to have the nasi lemak – what else do you eat there?! The plain Nasi Lemak (coconut rice, slices of cucumber, sambal, fried anchovies and peanuts and half a hard boiled egg) was RM2.95. Not too bad I thought. If you want anything else on top, its an add on price.
I had the nasi lemak with ayam masak merah (RM4.95 + RM2.95)

The rice is loose and fluffy and quite fragrant. The sambal is of the sweet variety and very spicy. I liked it! I’d have liked some extra fried ikan bilis
The ayam masak merah was not bad though you only get a drumstick not a whole leg for the price.
Dinner buddy had the nasi lemak with daging rendang (RM5.50 + RM2.95).
I thought RM5.50 was expensive but to be fair, the topping was quite generous – lots of chunks of beef cooked in a wet rendang style. It was pretty tasty.
We had an Asam Boi drink which was their signature drink at RM3.95 for cold. I didn’t think asam boi would be nice hot

It too was decent. Not too sweet.
There is a 10% service tax but service was on the slow side for us. There was no one else in the outlet but our dishes were sitting on the counter for a fair while before being served to us so the rice had cooled by then. Lucky for them it was pretty tasty or I’d not have anything nice to say! Portions are a decent size. If you are a small eater like me then you might be happy sharing.
Oh here’s something else. They asked us to fill out a comment card and I could not help myself when I saw the rating of “Everage” for “Average”.

Someone should have proof-read the card before it was printed. I spent a happy part of 5 minutes making the necessary corrections while waiting for the bill

I just tried the NLA outlet at Ampang Park and was sorely disappointed. Wanted to blog about it, but no pictures, so boo!
haha. should try that tho. well, if u r thinking of nasi lemak. the all-time best is still in Restoran Mana Lagi, Taman Perling, Johor Bahru. if u r heading 2 jb anytime, do try it. =)
I agree with you joe! Plus their mee goreng is much better than any other place!
Hi I tried the one at Kampung Baru and thought it was pretty average. I mean all the ingredients are decent but it does not stand out compared to other nasi lemaks I have tasted. So I think the $6.60 price tag (for usual stuff + ayam rendang) is a bit pricey. And the fame unjustified.
Sorry for sounding so harsh ha.
