I’d been seeing Ah Yip Herbal Soup at Low Yat Plaza a few times, but never really walked in. One evening while I was there, at a loss as to where to eat and hungry, I decided to give this place a shot. The RM9.90 set menu was part of the pulling factor, I don’t deny.

For RM9.90 you get the soup of the day (ABC soup or Potato, Carrot and Onion soup), rice, vegetables and braised chicken and a cold honey drink. There was another set we had for RM13.80 which had soup, rice, braised duck and ginger, vegetables, drink and a complimentary guilingao (herbal jelly) dessert. Not too shabby!

The ABC soup was a little thin and a little salty but then I was not expecting much since its one of those generic “soups of the day”.

The other soup we had was white radish with chicken. It was pretty decent although on the generic side.

The braised chicken and duck was not too bad. The portion was about right for 1 moderate eater and there was a good serving of blanched vegetables. For me, the whole set was a little too much so fortunately I had someone available to finish off the remainder.

The ice honey drink was also alright – not too sweet and sufficiently cold to wash down all the food.
The guilinggao dessert was sufficiently bitter yet tempered with the sweet syrup it is served with. I like this dessert and I prefer it slightly bitter rather than the sweet versions you get in many places. So I was not fussed.
The whole meal was about right for 2 persons and only cost less than RM24. Its not gourmet but its affordable and fills the tummy. Ah Yip Herbal Soup is located on the Lower Ground Floor of Low Yat Plaza facing Sungei Wang Plaza and next to Guardian Pharmacy. They have other items on the menu too but their specialty is herbal soups (I found some of the pricing a little steep but knowing how expensive Chinese herbs can be, I suppose its alright for the convenience of not having to boil it yourself). The set meals for lunch and dinner are worth it, in my view. Its decent and filling and affordable.
