Pomme Frites Bistro Sunway Pyramid

I first read about Pommes Frites Bistro in the papers and I knew I had to visit. I have very good memories of my mussels lunch in Brussels and Pommes Frites Bistro promised authentic mussels and handcut french fries. None of those reconstituted mash, thank you!

So when I was at Sunway Pyramid one weekend, I went to try it. Pommes Frites Bistro is at the Asian Avenue overlooking the theme park. It can get quite warm in the afternoon because of the sun streaming through the windows and the air-conditioning could do with some work.

Pommes Frites Mussels

We had a pot of Mussels in White Wine and Onion (about RM17.90) There were about 6 LARGE mussels cooked fresh in a lovely clear white wine sauce. You actually see them scoop the live mussels out from an aquarium so yes, its fresh. I might try a tomato based sauce next time.

It came with a bowl of fries and a dollop of mayonnaise on top.

I do like the fries here. They come piping hot to your table as they are fried on order, and they are thick and crunchy.

They were running a promotion of RM5 nett for a drink and their signature fries with topping. Pommes Frites Bistro has a large selection of dips to go with their fries and when you place an order for fries, you will be asked what dip you want to go with it.

I opted for fries with poutine for an extra RM1.

fries with poutine

Poutine is Canadian. Its a white sauce and cheese with bacon bits slathered over a plateful of fries. Honestly, its nothing you’d want to eat if you get queasy :D I used to make it a lot while I was a student. Guess who was a little lardball! :P

I got sick of the poutine mix halfway through. Oil + cream topping does not go at all! I came once and had a mango dip. That one is much fresher and preferable to this. However, I’d read that Poutine was one of their specialities so of course I had to try it :P

For anyone wondering (as I was) whether they actually handcut their fries, the answer is yes.

handcut fries

I actually saw the worker slicing it so I know for a fact the claim of handcut fries is true. I also am now assuaged of my curiousity as to how they can sit and cut so much fries – you don’t :P

For now, Pommes Frites Bistro does not charge service tax or government tax so prices are nett. They do pasta for RM10.90 a plate which I thought was very good. Sunway is too far else I’d pop by for lunch some day.

Incidentally, I wondered why they called it Pommes Frites Bistro. In french, fries are known as “pomme frites”. Where did the extra S come from??

Pommes Frites Bistro is good for a snack and only strictly if you like fries or mussels. I’d go back but perhaps only once in a couple of months due to distance and queasiness :P

@Xin: Yeah if you like fries they’re good. I usually make my own handcut fries but they never taste as good coz I never use as much oil! Haha…

@Beetrice: Okedoke! The next time we’re in Sunway we’re so there!
