Paddington House of Pancakes @ 1 Utama

Despite seeing the Paddington House of Pancakes around for a while, I’d never tried them. In my mind, I’d think “What? Pancakes only – so expensive!” :P

But one weekend, while I was with a friend at 1 Utama, we wound up at Paddington House of Pancakes because I’d never tried it and we wanted something different from the norm. It was that or A&W Rootbeer floats! LOL…

Paddington House of Pancakes at 1 Utama is by the Rainforest section Ground Floor, outside of the mall. Its hard to find if you don’t know how to get around and signages are non existent. It was quiet for a Sunday – so they might want to consider putting up some banners or something in the mall pointing the way to the restaurant.

The menu itself is hard going. A million type of pancakes to be had and the server was of no help. So we opted finally for 1 sweet, 1 savoury and 1 from the kiddy menu!

We started with the Pancake Nachos (RM16) from the Kid’s Menu.

Pancake Nachos

It was interesting. Nachos made with pancake batter and served with bacon bits, tomatoes and 3 dips – guacamole, sundried tomato and some garlic dip. It can get a little cloying after a spell. I found the oil taste getting to me about halfway through. Lucky we were sharing!

Our choice of savoury pancakes was the Blintzes with mexican beef filling (RM18.50). Minced beef cooked in tomato sauce and wrapped in a thin pancake. Think our local murtabak and its about that!

I initially thought it was a little pricey but since its so filling, its pretty much worth it. Good to share because again, the oil made it rather cloying for me.

For sweet, we had Crepes with Sauteed Peaches and ice cream (RM20.50). There were 3 thin crepes in a pan with a healthy helping of tinned peaches sauted with cinnamon and star anise and a large scoop of vanilla ice cream on top with strawberry syrup.

The crepes were a little crispy which tells me they were a little over cooked. It also stuck to the bottom of the pan.Since it would be impossible to ask for fresh peaches here, I was happy that the amount of peaches given was generous.

They do charge for water (RM0.50 a glass) which I don’t like. In my view, restaurants should not charge for hot or iced water if customers dine in. There is also service charge (10%) and Government Tax (5%).

I have not quite decided if I will return. If I do, it will only be for the sweet pancake dishes. Otherwise, Paddington House of Pancakes is only so-so in my view. Food is pricey and portions are average.

Paddington House of Pancakes have branches in a few major shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur.

hehe..agreed on the cloying part, although it’s a lot better with the “pizza-like” crepes.. :D the pancake nacho chips were defeinitely interesting, but I cannot imagine a kid getting through that! LOL…

Not drooling as much as the goose.. :-) but yeah! Restaurants should be ashamed of that penny pinching water charge!

I actually like Paddington’s and me and a select gang of galpals make it our regular meet-up place whenever one of them comes back from HK. We go like, “Same place?” and everyone knows where it is. LOL.

I actually like the food here though it is expensive. I found the Curve outlet actually has a set lunch menu that’s quite affordable. You get to choose from something like 6 different main courses, plus you get coffee and dessert with it. :-)
