I was introduced to Restoran Yook Tho Hin (PJ) by Beetrice when we held a little gathering over the Chinese New Year. We needed a place that had good food at good prices and she recommended this one in Damansara Utama.

It being Chinese New Year, there was the ubiquitious Yee Sang Prosperity Salad to toss high for a prosperous new year for all present.

Yee Sang

Unlike many places that serve Yee Sang, I found the Yee Sang here relatively fresh in that the vegetables were freshly grated and not soggy or wet. The sauce was not too sweet and everything was just nice.

Of course, in the process of tossing the Yee Sang, the place gets messy but hey! Thats the fun in eating Yee Sang! :)

A worthy mention here is the Fried Salted Egg Prawns.

Fried Salted Egg Prawns

I was so amazed at the size of the prawns – they were HUGE! They practically fill up the whole saucer as you can see below. The prawns were well fried – crisp on the outside yet juicy on the inside and well coated with salted egg yolk. Delicious!

Salted egg prawns

See, I told you the prawns were huge – and this was for every single prawn on the plate.

Another dish I enjoyed was the Braised Vegetable and Tofu. I don’t usually like tofu but this one was nice as it was egg tofu and they had petola or snakegourd which I enjoy eating.

Another dish on the menu was braised mushrooms with vegetable and mock meat (of gluten). This is usually served for vegetarian meals and will be good if any member of your dining party is vegetarian as it is pretty tasty too.

Other dishes not pictured were a whole foil wrapped herbal chicken which was nice and herbal but I found a little salty. It was quite a large chicken so there was ample to take away. There was also seafood sharksfin soup which we all enjoyed tremendously.

Lunch ended with cold canned longan and fried pastry desserts. A fitting end to a delicious meal.

And how much did all that cost? A mere RM32 a head for 8 persons dining (RM32 x 8 = RM256). Worth it? Absolutely!! Just those prawns alone would cost more than that. I will definitely be back again.

Yook Tho Hin address

Restoran Yook Tho Hin is in the same row as the 100 Yen shop and HSBC in Damansara Utama (Uptown) and next to a mamak shop. They sell roast meats downstairs while the restaurant proper is upstairs and is air conditioned.
