Here’s another night eating place in the Jalan Yew, Pudu area of Kuala Lumpur that serves a pretty decent Bak Kut Teh (pork rib soup) in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Jalan Yew, is the road running under the flyover to Jalan Tun Razak, and is the location of the Pudu wet market.

At night, the place is usually quite quiet except for a couple of eating places. Parking can be found under the flyover – its proper parking lots. The bak kut teh restaurant is Soon Tatt and it is in the same row as the May King Lam Mee restaurant. However it is only open at night.

When I go here for bak kut teh (which isn’t often) I usually have the mixed version in a claypot. The boiled meat is heated in a claypot, together with some pig intestines and stomach, mushrooms and some vegetable.

The soup is clear and can be slightly salty. It isn’t the thick sort of soup as you get in Klang but is the clearer lighter variety. I won’t say its wonderful, but it’s ok. A pot for 2 costs RM…

I do however, rather enjoy the vinegared pork trotter served at Soon Tatt.

Tu Kha Lau Chor (Hokkien) or Chu Kiok Chou (Cantonese) is pork trotter braised in black vinegar and ginger. The taste is alternately sour and sweet and pungent and is an acquired taste. I do like it and I quite like the one served here. A 1 person portion costs RM8.

Soon Tatt also serves roast chicken and a variety of other dishes, which you can order if you can read the chinese menu pasted on the stall. Most of the dishes are served with white rice.

Soon Tatt Bak Kut Teh is NON HALAL.
