I enjoy eating hummus, a chickpea dip found in Middle Eastern and Turkish cuisine. I really like eating hummus with toasted lebanese bread or pita bread and have recently started making my own to my taste. Hummus traditionally uses chickpeas and tahini, a paste made from sesame seeds. However, I dislike the taste of too much sesame in my food, so I prefer leaving out the tahini.

If you have been looking for a hummus recipe without tahini, then this is it for you! Here’s my quick and easy recipe for Hummus without tahini.
You need:
- 1 can of chickpeas (garbanzo beans)
- Juice of half a lemon
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 4 cloves of garlic chopped/crushed
- Salt and pepper to taste
How to:
- Drain the chickpeas from the can and pour into a blender.
- Add the chopped garlic, cumin and juice of the lemon and olive oil.
- Add some water and blend until smooth.
- Pour out and serve with hot toasted flat bread.
I like my hummus slightly chunky and with some bite so I don’t blend it till its smooth. However, if you prefer yours creamier, you may add more water and blend it till its creamy and smooth. I love hummus with warm pita or lebanese bread. It makes a good dinner starter and without tahini, its less fattening too. Perfect for vegetarians.

Why “do you need” ground cumin when it’s no used in the recipe?
@Helen: Thanks for the reminder! I forgot to add it in. Edited. Thanks
Cans come if different sizes. What size can of chickpeas did you use for your recipe?
