When I first heard about a pau with lor mai kai filling, I was intrigued. Lor Mai Kai, as most dim sum goers will know, is glutinous rice steamed with chicken and mushroom and is very flavoursome. It is also known as Lor Mai Fan which means the glutinous rice.
Jalan Radin Anum 1 Desa Sri Petaling
One dim sum shop in Kuala Lumpur has taken this one step further and wrapped the lor mai kai in pau skin. Very intriguing yes? The shop is in Jalan Radin Anum 1, Desa Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur.
What this shop has done is taken a simple lor mai kai and wrapped pau or steamed dumpling skin around it.

The Lor Mai Kai is very well cooked and soft, and there is a lot of flavour and pieces of chicken. The creation is topped with some char siew meat at the top. At the bottom, you can see the glutinous rice. Eaten together, the pau skin nicely balances out the saltiness of the glutinous rice.
Be warned however that this is not a dish to be eating if you are on a low carbohydrate diet! I found the inside a little salty actually, and it is nice if you have never eaten it before or if you are craving for something new. I have had it twice thus far and for me, its quite enough!
Each lor mai kai pau costs RM4.80. That alone is enough to put you off eating it! However, it is quite large and you can share it because it does get a little sickening after a while. Then again, if you enjoy eating lor mai kai, you might just polish off the whole thing by yourself!
This shop is located along the main road of Jalan Radin Anum 1. At Endah Parade, you turn into Desa Seri Petaling and head for the business centre. Radin Anum 1 is the main road. The shop is in the same row as that of Ho Ho Steamboat and Cottage Inn hotel. Parking is a mess so good luck! There are a few other shops selling dim sum and similar looking pau. I went for this one because it was the one I was recommended to try.
I also had dim sum but it wasn’t much to shout about. This shop is also where I got the Char Siew Ma Lai Ko pau that I wrote above before. Now, that one is worth eating!

@mimid3vils: Yep, it was on Hochiak! which prompted me to seek it out.
woah … full marks for originality!
I love bao skin… I don’t mind the high carbo … just gimme one
Oh, I’ve had this before and the best part of it for me is the salted egg hiding inside! Hehe.
You can also buy it frozen to takeaway and steam it in your own home but I think it tastes better in the shop.
Err it’s Seri Petaling. Desa Petaling is another area.
