The best Satay in Kuala Lumpur at Jalan Peel

My favourite satay (or sate) to be found in Kuala Lumpur is at Jalan Peel or Peel Road. This is in the area bordering Cheras and Pudu and is located near the Carrefour Cheras and Queen’s Park. For me, this stall sells the best satay in Kuala Lumpur and the crowds attest to that!

Just look at those succulent huge skewers of beef and chicken satay! The portions are very generous indeed and well marinated. The satay sticks are then grilled or barbequeued over an open flame and when served, they are piping hot, and just cooked. The stall in question is Dzul Sate Gerai 41 Jalan Peel.

Each stick of satay is RM0.60 which I don’t find expensive as one skewer is very substantial. I like that each skewer doesn’t include a piece of fat as you normally find in satay stalls. The beef and chicken pieces are still sweet and succulent without the fat included.

For those who like Kajang style satay, then this might be similar. The size if not the taste. I particularly like the satay at Dzul Sate because of the dipping sauce. The peanut dipping sauce is spicy and not overly sweet. I like my peanut sauce spicy and not like some modified form of peanut butter.

Dzul Sate is very popular and comes out only in the evenings. The crowds build up at about 7-8pm when it is at its peak.

Their grills are busily kept going all the time as they grill the sticks of satay over charcoal, for the neverending customers who eat in and take away. This is the traditional method of grilling satay which adds the smokey flavour to the meat.

Just look at the grills go!

Dzul Sate is located under a large tree on Peel Road, on the same side as the Carrefour store. If you come from KL, it is just further down from the Convent School at Peel Road. You’d have to make a U-turn at the Queen’s Park traffic lights to get to this stall, and parking is horrible. Most people just park by the side of the road (if they can find a space). Else, park inside the Carrefour store and walk out. You can’t miss this stall.

There is another famous satay stall opposite, at the coffee shop across the road. I’m told that they both originated from the same stall, but had split. I’ve tried both, and I prefer Dzul Sate simply because the satay kuah or satay sauce wins me over. However, the other satay stall offers more variety. Dzul Sate only serves chicken or beef. I wasn’t too impressed with the ketupat, but that’s not what I’m here for.

If you are looking for good, reasonably priced, generous helpings of satay, try Dzul Sate at Peel Road (Jalan Peel) in Cheras. You won’t regret it at all!!

Beetrice: This stall is actually opposite the one you featured. Its under a tree not in the Restoran Queens but I heard they both originated from the same source. I even make myself want to go back!

mimid3vils: Yummy! Go try it some day!

Those really looks good. But I think Malaysian peanut sauce is very sweet. I like my sauce to be a bit spicier .. What do you think?

Andie: I can’t remember the Indonesian style sauce from my trip to Bali years ago. I too prefer my sauce spicy and I shun satay stalls which serve sweet sauces!

can you tell us, is there any LRT station near there?
I really missed the good Satay last time I visited KL. cos, like you, I like my peanut sauce spicy & without the fat included.

@Danny: There is no LRT Station nearby unfortunately. The closet would be the Maluri Station but you’d still need to take a taxi after you get there. If you want to take a taxi straight, ask them to take you to Carrefour Cheras or Queen’s Park and its just a short walk from there.
