Beef Noodles and Seafood Noodles in Restoran Fatty Sang, Kepong

I sometimes like having a bowl of seafood noodles and the most famous seafood noodles in Kuala Lumpur are in Yu Ai, which costs a bomb at RM15.90 a bowl. Crazy ridiculous prices! So, when I found one in Kepong that cost only RM5.50 for a large bowl of seafood and noodles, I knew I had to tell the world about it.

Restoran Fatty Sang has stalls selling noodles in the day and tai chow (cooked dishes) food at night. I’ve never eaten there at night, but I sometimes make the longish drive to Kepong to have the seafood noodles and beef noodles (Ngau Lam Min – Cantonese). Restoran Fatty Sang is located near the Tai Thong Restaurant in Kepong. If you come down the road towards Kepong from Kuala Lumpur, it is before the Carrefour. On your left will be a turning in, with a Shell petrol station at the corner. You can’t miss Restoran Fatty Sang as you enter the road.

There are a few noodles stalls in Fatty Sang, but my must have recommendations are the seafood noodle and beef noodles. (more pictures after the jump!)

This is a typical standard sized bowl of seafood noodles in clear soup base. You have a choice of clear soup or tom yam, both of which are recommended. You also have a choice of noodles, ranging from mee hoon (rice vermicelli), yellow mee to thick white rice noodles (lai fun). The noodles come with about 4 medium sized prawns, and generous amounts of fish slices, sliced cuttlefish, clams (lala) topped off with some seaweed. It is very filling and at RM5.50 a bowl, absolutely worth the money. I’d go so far as to say that taste wise, its even better than the famous Yu Ai seafood noodles in Segambut!

My other recommendation is the beef noodles. The stall is just opposite that of the seafood noodles, and you can’t miss them – there is a row of claypots waiting for your order.

I like my beef noodles of the dry variety with mee hoon. I find that the mee hoon absorbs the sauce well and makes it extra tasty. The noodle is served with slices of braised beef tripe and beef brisket. I don’t normally like Chinese Parsley in my food, but I make an exception for this dish because it adds to the flavour.

Look at how yummy that looks! I previously paid RM4 for a standard serving which is pretty substantial in itself. The last time I went, I requested additional beef tripe and brisket and they charged me RM5. Still reasonable for the amount you get which is a lot.

Another stall I tried was the fried kway teow (char kway teow) which was ok but nothing super spectacular. I’d stick to the seafood noodles and beef noodles.

So, the next time you feel the urge to eat seafood noodles, its worth hopping into your car and making the drive to Kepong. You can have 3 bowls here at Restoran Fatty Sang compared to just 1 at Yu Ai! :)

hyperx: I’m not sure which one you mean in KL, but if its the expensive Yu Ai, I’d say its about as good as or even better. Try it and see!

Yummy and delicious food is so cheap in Malaysia. I so envy you for living there. Eating out is really pricey at the rest of the world. The beef noodles looked absolutely mouthwatering!
