Jalan Batai Rojak Buah (fruit salad)

I took my mom to Jalan Batai for the Hong Kee Roast Duck noodles again recently as I was around the area. This time, my sis went off down the road to pick up a pack of rojak buah (fruit rojak) which she was recommended as being very good.

Rojak Buah is one of those things about Malaysian food that most people enjoy. It is akin to a fruit salad made using tropical fruits and vegetables e.g. young mango, young papaya, pineapples, cucumber, sengkuang (yambean); fried tofu skin (tau pok) and fried flour sticks (yu char kuey) and prawn crackers; and mixed with a thick black pungent sauce made from prawns with crushed peanuts scattered over it.

A pack of this rojak cost RM5 which I found expensive although it was quite a big pack, filling up a styrofoam box. I poked around the rojak but did not get any yu char kuey in it, which I like. I don’t like tau pok so I was not pleased to find it in my mouth!

On an overall basis, I did not find this rojak buah very exceptional. Despite the pungent sauce, I found the overall taste quite bland and salty. The fruits too did not taste particularly good. So I’d only give it a Pink Parisian of 2/5 stars: [rating:2/5].

Do you have any recommendations for other good rojak buah stalls around Kuala Lumpur?

i quite like the old man stall in TTDI, RM4 with additional cracker. Usually I skip the pineapple and kangkung, and order extra cracker! The regular ones cost RM3.50. I posted about it here > http://sloppychic.com/olden-days-ipoh-white-coffee-rojak-stall-in-ttdi/
