I used to visit this place in Pudu without knowing its name. It used to serve a very substantial steamboat set for dinner but there are other food too and on weekends its always crowded with people enjoying the Yong Tau Foo which they specialize in. Recently Yap Hup Kee had a make over to make it look more inviting.

You can see the pot for the steamboat in the bottom right corner of the picture. Their steamboat sets used to be RM27 for 2 but it might have gone up in price now as with everything else.

Here are some pieces of Yong Tau Foo I had the night I was there. Each piece is about 80 sen if I recall. I found that the size of the pieces of Yong Tau Foo had diminished. They were quite a disappointment although still tasty. For the uninitiated, Yong Tau Foo is pieces of vegetable or tofu stuffed with fish paste and pan fried or boiled. Its nice.

I also had the sui kow or prawn and pork meat dumplings. Not very sizable as you can see in the picture. The prawns were crunchy though. I think it was about RM1+ per piece.

This is curry chee cheong fun which is rice sheets sliced thin and served with a thick curry sauce. I like this one as the curry sauce is thick and coats every strand of the rice sheets well. It is served with a sprinkling of dried prawns which add fragrance and flavour and some fried shallots. This is easily the best item to order at Yap Hup Kee! I think it was RM2.50 which is expensive as its only a small bowl.

Another noodle item which is popular here is the dry loh shu fun with mince meat. The noodles are short fat rice flour noodles and they are served dry with some soy sauce and a dollop of mince meat cooked in soy sauce. It is tasty, I’d admit but again, at RM2.50 for a small bowl, its expensive.
I haven’t gone back since the price increase. I did not think it was worth eating there anymore. I might make an exception for the curry chee cheong fun even if I’d choke at the price!
Here’s the address of the shop. It is located in Pudu where all the printers shops are and is open for lunch and dinner till late. Parking can be a problem at any time of the day.
