I could not think of a description that could perfectly describe the food at the stall called Ah Hing in Jalan Tiong Nam in Kuala Lumpur.

This stall sells some of the best lor bak (braised pork), braised pig intestines, pig maw (or pig stomach) pepper soup and tu ka lao chor (vinegared braised pork leg) I have ever eaten here in KL.

Be warned – the food presented below may not agree with everyone especially those who don’t eat innard or spare parts, so please proceed at your own peril!

This is a sampling of the food I had once. It was for 3 persons!

The pig stomach pepper soup is spicy but tasty, and comes with a generous helping of sliced pig stomach and chicken feet. We almost always ask for a refill of soup which is given without question.

We also had our favourite Vinegared Braised Pork leg, which is pork braised with black soy sauce and dark vinegar. The vinegar is tart but sweet and the gravy is good enough to drink up! This isn’t available everyday, and I think its only available on Fridays or Saturdays. But when they do have it, I lap up every drop! You can ask for lean meat or for meat with a little fat on it according to your tastes.

And the piece de resistance, braised pig intestines! I told you it wasn’t for the squeamish! They are very tasty and well cleaned and braised so there’s no unpleasant smell or taste. Definitely a must order whenever I go there, even if I am aware that it is terribly unhealthy to eat a lot of this! But hey, I don’t visit often, so I guess I’m entitled to eat this when I do.

Ah Hing’s stall is located in Jalan Tiong Nam, which is a road that runs parallel to Jalan Raja Laut. If you come down Jalan Raja Laut, go straight all the way past Sogo, past Wisma Sime Darby and past a hotel until you come to a left turning into Jalan Tiong Nam. There is a coffee shop at the corner and the road slopes downwards.

Ah Hing is the first stall at the junction that you see, next to a mamak stall that sells awesome mee goreng. You can opt to sit in the open air by the stall or in a coffee shop opposite. They are run by the same people. Parking is impossible but its worth it just for the food!

The stall is open from 6.30pm till late everyday, and there are daily specials too. Their braised radish and pork dish is another recommendation. Their yellow wine chicken or chicken cooked with sesame oil is also not bad. Prices are fair, averaging RM6-8 or so for a 1 person portion of meat. All dishes are served with rice and vegetables offered are steamed and served with oyster sauce. I usually find the vegetable quite expensive at about RM8 for a plate.

I love braised meats and this is a hidden (or not so hidden) gem!
