Singapore Prawn Noodles at Food Republic Pavilion Kuala Lumpur
After I wrote about the Prawn Noodles (hei mee) I had in Singapore’s Food Republic food court, I felt that I had to have the one here too just to have a basis for comparison. So, one day I trooped over to the Food Republic at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur for a taste test.
The stall selling these prawn noodles is really hard to find. I walked around the whole food court twice before spotting it! For your reference, it is located just opposite Tony Roma’s.

First off, I’d say the portion is slightly smaller than that in Singapore. However, it is only RM7 here as opposed to S$6 so it is only to be expected. That said, it is still a very large portion.
Like in Singapore, it is fried as you order and served on a plate with a folded dried banana leaf on it. I’d say it is more for presentation that to add flavour. The noodles are also similar - yellow noodles and fat vermicelli fried in prawn broth. There is a lot of liquid but it kind of dries up a little as you eat. There were about 4 large prawns in there, with generous helpings of egg and squid and bean sprouts.
Taste-wise, I’d say its about the same as that in Singapore, veering towards the slightly salty side. The chilli that accompanies the noodles is slightly more watery but it is still nice and goes well with the noodles. I do prefer my noodles fried a bit drier. Maybe I’ll specify that next time.
I love fried prawn noodles and I’m now happy to find that I have an avenue to have it in KL too! To eat, squeeze the lime over the noodles and tuck in!
Yum!
