Carl’s Jr. Burger joint at MidValley Megamall

Finally headed over to Carl’s Jr. to see what all the hype was about a couple of weeks ago. Carl’s Jr. is located at the top floor of Mid Valley Megamall next to McDonald’s and opposite the GSC Cinema. Quite a smart move that one, because it would catch all the movie goers who are looking for something quick to eat. I think there’s also one in 1 Utama.

The first thing that struck me about the restaurant was how much it looked like a cafe. Honestly though, chairs without backs in a fastfood restaurant is a smart idea because it does not encourage you to linger thereby making better turnaround time! It is uncomfortable however. The second thing that struck me was the prices. Make no mistake, the burgers are expensive, ranging from RM15 upwards.

To be fair, the size of the burgers too are large. HUGE in fact! The contents practically spill out of the buns – a good thing for big eaters!

I had a Charbroiled Chicken Club Sandwich. That’s just a fancy name for a huge burger with a large slab of charbroiled chicken breast and beef bacon. If it was pork, I think it would have been even yummier! I like that it was on a wholemeal bun with a generous helping of lettuce leaves and tomato slices. It is also slathered with mayonnaise so be sure to omit it if you don’t like it.

I had my chicken sandwich as part of the set which means fries and a drink. Carl’s Jr fries are thick cut and I believe made of real sliced potatoes. I say so because I saw some skin left on the fry and I found that it had better substance and tasted nicer than the usual fries you get from fastfood places.

One word of warning though. When you order the set, they will ask if you’d like it Medium or Large. I went for Medium and then realised that they had tacked on an additional amount to the bill. Apparently, the default set is small (small drink and small fries) which you can upsize. I saw some other diners having the small set and it looked substantial enough. As for my Medium set, it is equivalent to a “Large” in other fastfood restaurants.

My buddy had a Double Western Bacon Cheeseburger – double beef patties with beef bacon and cheese on a sesame seed bun. Sinfully delicious!

Here’s another reason why I like Carls’ Jr. The Relish Bar! I find this a very novel concept. They have bowls of pickles, salsa, relish, chopped onions and chilli (?) on ice which you can help yourself to. Who needs generic tomato sauce when you can have relish!

Drinks are also refillable from the drinks bar. Choose from soft drinks or the signature Carls’ Jr. Ice Tea which is unsweetened black tea that you can sweeten yourself with syrup.

The menu at Carl’s Jr is extensive and I’d recommend that you take your time to choose. The prices are high, about double that of normal fastfood joints, but they make up for it by using better quality ingredients and serving bigger portions. Carls Jr. also boasts of a low carb option to cater for those on a low carbohydrate diet. I haven’t tried it but it might be interesting.

Our dinner came up to over RM40 for 2 persons. Expensive for fast food, but I thought it was worth the splurge. I’d return… but I’ll let my wallet heal first.

I love Carl’s Jr. too, but like you say, it’s expensive and hurts my wallet each time I go. The relish bar is something I just discovered during my last visit there and I’d gladly go again just for that!

Hi, I too love Carl’s Jr. The burger I had was so huge but soooo gooodd…. Just to add, it is not beef bacon. Since many chinese and indian customers, the bacon is made of chicken. I find that weird but I would love normal pork bacon in my burgers than chicken bacon. The burgers remind me of what you can get at Chilis as well, same kinda portion.
