I was walking along Petaling Street with a friend one day when I caught sight of a stall selling bak kwa (barbequeued pork slices) in a bun. They called it a Chinese Burger and I was intrigued. I’d never tried it before.

There are a few stalls selling similar items so I stopped at a random one to buy the “Chinese Burger”. I wasn’t aware there were so many combinations available! There was dried meat with chicken floss and egg, dried meat and chicken floss, chicken floss and egg… the possibilities were endless.
I opted for what I thought would be the “original” i.e. barbequed (dried) pork slices and chicken floss in a bun. It cost RM2.80. Wow… expensive!
First of all, they split a soft bun down the middle and lightly toast it on a grill. Then, they apply butter on the inside, sprinkle some chicken floss on one side, lay a slice of dried meat on the other and a few slices of cucumber down the middle.
And this is the Chinese Burger Petaling Street is so famed for.

To be fair, it is actually pretty tasty, and its easy to whip up at home too. So now you know what to do with all that bak kwa left over from Chinese New Year!
