Photo-0251One of my favourite Claypot Chicken Rice stalls is found in the Pudu area of Kuala Lumpur. I’m not certain how to describe its location as I only know how to get there. It is located in a side lane between a coffee shop and a Maybank, and is opposite Sek Yuen restaurant. The tables are set up across the road in the parking lot of the Maybank.

The cooking of the claypot chicken rice is still done the traditional way – using charcoal. Many places now have resorted to using gas, but I find that the ones cooked using charcoal have the best taste, and the best crust!

The specialty is of course, the chicken rice. The rice comes cooked in a claypot, with the pieces of marinated chicken, chinese waxed sausages and some salted fish on top, garnished with a generous helping of chopped spring onions.

I like the claypot rice here because it has a nice smoky flavour, the chicken pieces are fleshy and tender and it is all round flavoursome. It is also fairly priced compared to other places.

They also have a soup of the day, if you are into having soup accompanying your meal, and scalded vegetables with oyster sauce. Personally I don’t recommend the soup because I find it too salty and makes me feel thirsty after eating.

This stall only comes out in the evenings at about 6.30pm to 7pm. Parking can be a hassle as you have to go round and park at the back. There is an open paid parking lot, and some metered parking, or you can take your chances by parking along the back lanes.

I used to buy from this guy when I was staying around the area a couple of years back. And yes, the claypot chicken rice is good. Now, I have found another good stall at Plaza Cheong Hin called Kampar Claypot Chicken Rice. Better, I think…even though it is gas fired.

Yeah, I do found a much better charcoal clay pot chicken rice at Jln Segambut industry – KIM PO Restaurant. It is Free Parking. They open daily from 11am-3pm and from 6pm-10pm. I have gotten their telephone number: 03-6258 3167. You can call Uncle Tan for the direction to get there.
