Grilled Ham and Salad Sandwich
We had a family barbeque over the New Year and one of the items on the menu was grilled ham steaks. I bought a block of ham and cut it into thick steaks to throw on the grill. We had it with french loaf as quick DIY sandwiches and it went down a treat!
This is what I used for my Grilled Ham and Salad Sandwich.
- French loaf or baguette or any crusty bread cut into 3 inch chunks
- Ham steaks cut into 1 inch thick slices
- Salad leaves
- Ketchup or mustard to taste
How to assemble:
- Grill the ham steaks on a medium hot barbeque until lightly browned.
- Slit the bread down the middle and place face down on the grill to lightly toast the inside.
- Place a slice of grilled ham and some salad leaves inside the bread and garnish with tomato ketchup or mustard to your liking.
I never expected the family to love this but it disappeared very quickly. It also takes the pressure off having to prepare many main dishes for a barbeque, especially here where the mainstays are usually fried rice or noodles! This makes a refreshing change and is less oily too. Oh and I love this too for a quick light meal.
