Nothing says Christmas more than that of a Christmas plum pudding! Feeling in the Christmas mood, I went out and bought a little one from the supermarket. It came wrapped up prettily and with specific instructions on how to heat up the pudding.
They recommended steaming it, but I was impatient, so I opted for the microwave method. The pudding is housed in a plastic bowl and covered with a thin film of plastic. You have to make sure to poke holes in the plastic film with a fork or knife so the hot air can escape and then, since it was just a tiny little thing, it was microwaved for about 80 seconds.
After taking it out, I poured a generous measure of brandy over it and lit it with a match. It was the first time I was flambeing anything but I was thrilled to see the blue flames licking at the pudding! Adding the brandy adds a nice sweet taste to the pudding. You can have it with cream or custard or ice cream too.
The pudding has a slightly sticky texture and is filled with raisins and bits of fruit. It says it was steamed with cider and sherry too but you can’t really taste it. It was sufficiently moist which was nice.
And here is my Christmas pudding – positively yummy!
Here’s wishing all readers of the Pink Parisian Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
