Singapore: Tony Roma’s Rib Restaurant

I’d heard a lot about Tony Roma’s famous ribs but reviews of the Tony Roma’s here in Malaysia appeared to be rather lacklustre. So, when I was last across the causeway, I decided to try the Singapore branch. I’m so happy I did.

Tony Roma’s in Singapore serves pork ribs! In large quantities! I mean, when there are pork baby back ribs on the menu, one no longer thinks about eating beef ribs. I’m serious. I’ve since been to the Tony Roma’s in CineLeisure and I’m sorry to say that whilst the ambiance is the same, the food quality and the selection pales in comparison to the branch in Singapore.

Being a typical American styled restaurant, food portions are large. It is styled in the manner of a rib shack in America, with booths and tables and large portions of food that is meant to share. So, share I did.

After we’d placed or orders, this was brought to our table.

A wooden chopping board with a bread knife and a stick of french baguette. It was served with margarine and herb butter. No prizes for guessing which I went for! In the presence of herb butter, one merely sniffs at the thought of eating margarine! The bread was warm and absolutely yummy!

Then, we started with the Onion Loaf. We got the full loaf which is essentially battered strips of onion arranged into the shape of a loaf and deep fried and served with a dip. Its oily and quite cloying after a while. So, my advise when ordering this is to go for the half loaf.

Next came the main course. Feast your eyes on this!!

As there were 2 of us, we opted for the Tony Roma’s Star Studded Sampler which was 4 types of ribs served with 2 side dishes. I opted for fries and corn for a more authentic feel. There were about 4 sticks of ribs in each rack which made for a very very substantial meal indeed. We ended up packing the remainder for dinner which was still yummy!

The pork ribs were succulent – not dry at all – and the sauces were wonderfully tasty although a little salty. It would be so wonderful if they actually served it here (wishful thinking huh?)

And lastly, we rounded off with their signature dessert Apple Crisp which is apple crumble with vanilla ice-cream on top.

The apple was sufficiently tart and sweet and went well with the vanilla ice cream and drizzled caramel. Yummy!

I’m sorry Tony Roma’s Malaysia, you can’t hold a candle to your sister restaurant in Singapore. I can’t wait to go there again and I’m making myself hungry just thinking about it! :P

Good grief! Oh yes, I couldn’t imagine the Tony Roma’s at Cineleisure, but when I was in Portland, Oregon, that Tony Roma’s was one of the most delicious pork ribs I’ve ever had. Somehow, beef ribs ain’t the same, at all!! Beautiful pics..

ParisB says: Thanks LB! I can’t imagine not eating pork ribs somehow…
