I had a bad experience once at Chopstick Noodle House at Midvalley Megamall and boycotted the place for a while. Then, I went back again with my sis where things did not seem so bad. The food was decent, the service was fast and things were looking alright.
So, I went there again with a friend.
Big mistake.
First of all, we were seated behind their separator screen. You know the screen that separates the “closed section” from the rest of the restaurant? That very same one. I felt like we were being ostracized for being bad. Like being asked to sit in a corner.
We were hungry by then so we did not make too much of a fuss. It did not bug me after a while because then it was easier to chat. Rather like being in a private room.
But it was too good to last. Just a short while into our meal, a couple of waitresses brought out trays of their washed cutlery and crockery, and proceeded to dry and stack them on the table right behind me.
I would have no quarrel with that had the waitress not been throwing – I mean it literally – the cutlery and crockery from one tray into another. The racket was terrible! This went on throughout the whole meal.
So, we rushed through our lunch (which was horrible by the way. I tried to take photos but they did not turn out. I had fried loh shee fun – there were hardly any ingredients in it save for the noodles, and not a scrap of spring onion. It was just a blob of black gunk on the plate. Eww!)
Then, I called for the bill with this swanky contraption present on every table.
It operates by infrared or radio waves or what-have-you, but whatever it was, they brought me the bill when I pressed “Bill”. I paid for the meal and then waited for the receipt and change of approximately RM0.10.
Now, call me Scrooge, but I do not practice tipping – not in Malaysia and not after that awful service I had. In fact, when there is a service charge of 10% tacked on, I don’t see the need to add on any further tips.
But my change and receipt did not return. I pressed the contraption on the table multiple times, but where the “Bill” button had brought the waiter running with the bill before, it now brought nothing. I tried every button. No waiter.
I stopped a passing waiter and asked them for my receipt and change. Nothing.
In the end, I walked up to the head waiter (usually the one in a suit) and asked for my receipt and change. It finally came – 5 sen and 5 1 sens. I took them all plus the receipt.
This is possibly my last visit to Chopstick Noodle House. I find that what you are paying for is overpriced food of mediocre quality with horrible service. So there!

I saw your avatar at my bloglog, so I came to your blogs.
I almost went in that shop when I was in KL last time. Seems like I can give it a pass.
PB says: Thanks for coming by. Its nothing special. Don’t bother.
Disgusting service. 1 sen also I’ll take back!
PB says: Agree. 1/2 sen also I take back!
hey, i went to chopstick yesterday and it was my first and last.. gosh, they seriously need cooking class.. i ordered fried rice, and it came out like fried porridge… ew.. the rice, gosh, too much water and it’s really bad.. i felt so cheated. is there any law where i can sue them for bad service?
The restaurant next (beside nearby) has batter foods. This is the place where most people go. But the menu is more expensive.
After so long not been to there, so i tried making a google search and guess what, i found yours. hmm i realized it has not improve much and can see negative comments. Nevertheless, my encounter was much much worse as they suspected ring in my dessert and rather acted rude over me with some impolite attitude.
sighz.. thumbs down to them. Tai Thong should really look into this man!!
