Segambut Fried Chicken Rice

This is one of the most delicious, drool-inducing dishes I’ve ever eaten! Sis read of this from Pablo’sHochiakthen waxed lyrical about it and finally after hearing so much about it I managed to try it!

It’s a little stall in the backwaters of Segambut that dishes out the most heavenly fried chicken legs, softly resting on a fragrant bed of buttered rice. It’s a beautiful contrast of textures, the crunchiness of the fried chicken against the soft rice grains.

It’s hugely popular and you’ll need to wait your turn while they fry up chicken legs in the huge woks of oil. The server will then chop up steaming hot chicken legs onto your equally hot rice while you wait with your tummies growling. The chicken’s not oily and coated with a lightly seasonedbatter that gives it a marvellous crunch.

Eating there is best. Ta-pau at your own peril, which we discovered later, when our hungry tummies were assailed with the mouth-watering smells of the fried chicken rice wafting from our packs. The ride home had never felt so long!

You can add on just plain chicken if the one with the rice isn’t enough. Highly, highly recommended! Yum…posting this one up just made me crave for it again! Gotta wait till tomorrow ‘cos they only sell on alternate days of Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays!

Fried chicken rice - Best in Segambut, best in KL and some say, much much better than KFC!

Better than KFC. ANYTIME! Only thing is, you can’t get it as regularly as KFC :P

PE says: Gotta wait patiently for it and I think that waiting only heightens the anticipation of eating it!

Where is this fried chicken rice and how come I’ve never heard of it before? I’m so ulu, hor? :D

PE says: Not ulu…I didn’t know of it either until PB told me about it! But when I tasted it….wahhh…I don’t normally eat a lot of rice but I almost finished that whole box of fluffy fragrant rice! Add lots of fried chicken to boot! :P

Where on earth is segambut? I so need you to google earth this place for me, please? I love KFC so if you’re saying this is miles better, and it seems pablo agrees as well, then I am not gonna miss this!!

PE says: Ahh…secret! ;) You’ll have to be blindfolded if taken there! Hehehe ;)

damn, I miss good fried chicken! makes me wanna go search for one this weekend. KFC doesn’t cut it anymore! DHL one kai pei to me, pronto!

PE says: One kai pei winging its way over to Ozzie on KaiPei Express! :-)

Since got so many people asking how to get there, this is one of the ways to get there:-

From Jln Kuching, exit at Segambut roundabout. Drive to direction of Segambut. You will see Total Office Warehouse on your left. Keep left. You will see a traffic light junction in front of you. Goh Ban Huat Showroom is on your left. At the traffic lights, turn right.

Drive straight and just as you have passed a row of shophouses on your left, take a right turn followed by a left turn. You will see the stall on your left further down the road.

Just see my site for pictures of the stall.

Thanks for the tip, Pablo :) Hopefully they find their way to the yummiest fried chicken rice in KL and some say PJ! :D
