Pig maw pepper soup - my favourite food
The Giddy Tiger told us about her love for dim sum and asked for my favourite food.
Well, see the bowl of hot steaming soup above? Its one of my favourite dishes. Not exactly a state favourite but a personal favourite. Its pig maw (pig stomach) soup boiled with lots of white pepper and pork ribs. It reminds me of Chinese New Year as my mum makes one of the best tu-tor-thng this side of heaven. I plan to learn up her recipe so I too can carry on the tradition some day.
The pig’s maw comes in a large piece which is then sliced up before serving. The soup is usually boiled with white peppercorns and pork ribs or chicken feet. Gosh! I just realised that this dish is something that will make many a foreigner shudder with horror, and many a Chinese drool with delight! hehe…
One stall in Kuala Lumpur which serves a good tu-tor-thng is located in Jalan Tiong Nam just off Jalan Raja Laut. Someday when I remember to bring my camera there, I’ll do a review on it. Excellant hokkien fare!

My mother has pig stomach soup that I love too. She doesn’t cook very often coz it’s a lot of work cleaning pig stomach. We are Hakka, so she cooks the pig stomach with “yong tou foo” and meat balls. yum yum.
PB says: yeah I’ve seen my mom cleaning it. Its the only time I see coke come in handy! I’ve never eaten pig stomach in anything other than soup! Your mom’s recipe sounds interesting!
I always wondered what maw meant… always thought it had something to do with mouth, not stomach! 0.0
Ahhh… there’s nothing like home-cooked soup to warm you right up, eh?
PB says: hehe… Maw is mouth I think but then there’s pig’s maw, fish maw both of which refer to the stomach. I guess it has 2 meanings then?
oooOOOooOOOoo… I could almost taste that pepper in the soup! my dad would love drinking this. mmm…
PB says: Yeah perfect on a cold winter’s day! But not so perfect in our hot weather
This is my favorite too! I love the one my Mom makes as well!
I tried making this twice. First time was yucky and the second time was a charm! Want the recipe? ![]()
