Tuna with black pepper and lemon

I wouldn’t be so bold as to call this a kitchen experiment. The closest it got to being one is that it was assembled in my kitchen! Anyway, I got home late and although I had had a little bite of food I was still hungry. So, I opened up my drawers and saw this:

Tuna with black pepper and lemon. This is by a brand called Marina. I’d remembered loving the one by John West that costs a bomb. This is relatively cheaper at about RM3.20 per tin. Its basically premixed tuna with black pepper and onion in an oil based liquid.

The tin is easy to open as its a pull tag like most sardine and tuna tins these days. No more need for fiddling around with a can opener.

There is some oil in it, but I wouldn’t recommend throwing away that oil for its infused with the taste of the black pepper and lemon and would just be a waste! The tuna is readily flaked and is very yummy! The black pepper taste is strong but I hardly tasted any lemon though there is a tangy base flavour. Its also a tad salty.

I had it straight from the can on toasted oat and honey bread. You don’t need to do anything with it, just slap it on and voila! A quick and easy snack! I’ve kept the rest of the tin and will conjure up another dish with it soon. I can forsee this tuna being a staple in my larder.

OMG, this IS a staple diet of mine too! During rushed lunchbreaks, and I am too lazy to cook anything, all I gotta do is pry open a can of tuna, slap that over some bread, and off I go!! Easy peasey! No fuss, all yum! Or if I have a bag of salad, I would pour the tuna onto it! Add generous dollop of olive oil… No fuss, even more yum!

I’m going to have the balance with either salad or pasta. Yum!

It’s a staple in my house too! My mum makes salad with canned tuna – add generous amounts of olive oil, chop in extra onions for that zingy taste, sprinkle generously with herbs and voila! ready to eat. Yum!
